In reviews, Apple's MacBooks always get very good ratings for their displays. As far as I know Apple uses LG and Samsung displays for most of their products.

How can I find out which displays the MacBooks use and which other laptops use them as well?

Which model? My two cents - find a model you like, and then try and find a tear-down for that model. You might be able to find a model number for the screen off the tear-down images. – aaron.newton Jan 15 at 12:29
