I need a cheap solution for driving two monitors. So I looked at refurbished Dell Optiplex SX280 USFF boxes that can be had very cheaply at the moment. Those have a dual-link DVI-I port connected to an Intel GMA 900 card.
There are adapter cables that split the analog and digital signals on a DVI-I port, and on the net, there are reports that this is used to drive two monitors (extended desktop mode) under Windows.
Does anyone have experience using this setup under Linux? What do I need to do so that X.org recognizes a VGA and a DVI display connected by a simple adapter cable to a DVI-I port?
