How can I switch off the video of the other party in Skype?

I.e. I do not want to receive video in Skype (for bandwith reasons - however the other party is not able/willing to turn off video).

I am using Skype 5.5.0.124 on Windows 7.

you can go to options -> general-settings -> video-settings and there you can decide from whom you want to accept video calls.

Yeah but that would mean that I can not accept the call anymore wouldn't it? I want to accept the call, I only want to suppress the video, but not the audio. However asking the other party not to send video is not an option (other party is not able to do that). – gojira Jan 17 at 15:28
Skype supports voice calls. If they can video chat, they can voice chat. – iglvzx Jan 17 at 15:30

@gojira There are two different types of calls in skype, video and audio, if you don't want to video skype, then do an audio call. Why is the other party not able to do that? It just has to click the right button. – bamboon Jan 17 at 17:01
@bamboon >Why is the other party not able to do that? For you and me, it's very easy. For other people, computers are very, very difficult to use. I sometimes talk to people who are simply overstrained with the task of understanding concepts like "bandwith" or "how to switch off video". – gojira Jan 18 at 4:01
