I'm forwarding X applications from an AIX box to a CentOS 5.5 box over a LAN. If I do a normal ssh and forward the display the application is very slow responding. If I use Xephyr to create a separate X window the application responds quickly as would be expected.

I've tried -X, -Y, compression settings, and different ciphers but nothing makes a difference. What am I missing? I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that is messing me up but I can't find it.

If no one is sure about that issue is there a way to have an application forwarded to your default X session but keep it from being "themed" by the window manager for that session? – buttertoad Jan 18 at 21:41
