I bought a HP Proliant n36L microserver for learning and to use it as a NAS server.

I have the server running windows server 2008 r2. I want to be able to share files between my laptop and server. The Server is connected to my router by Ethernet cable.

I have my laptop and Xbox on the same network and both can see each others shared folders which is what I use to stream movies to the Xbox. When I look at the network map for the server I can see my laptop on the network but cant connect to it or the shared folders but can't see the Xbox at all. I also see that the server is connected to a switch and then to the network. I'm just wondering if this is the reason for the problem I'm having of not being able to see my Xbox or connect to shared folders. When i try to connect to my laptop i get the error: Cannot access \computername Error code: 0x80070035...I presume I haven't got something relatively simple configured that should allow me to connect..

I downloaded PS3 mediaServer to stream movies to it but because my server cannot see the Xbox it wont work.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

Step 1: can you ping you laptop and xbox from your server? Also, vice versa. – Orihara Jan 23 at 2:26
