When a computer freezes (windows or mac) where do you point fingers?

  1. The OS (software);

  2. The RAM (hardware);

Anything else? Do you point fingers at the graphics/video card? the HD?

I would vote to close this as a duplicate, but there are literally too many duplicates to choose from. A computer can freeze for many reasons and the first place to look at is the kind of thing you were doing before it froze: heavy HDD access = HDD, 3D games = graphics card, not much = every last part in your computer. – Mokubai Jan 22 at 12:57
graphics/video card & HD are also hardware. – Kevin M Jan 22 at 13:02

As a generic "why do computers freeze", my first place to look is drivers(interface from OS to hardware). And that would pretty much complete everything.
