I'm a co-op student currently working at AMD and I'm having trouble figuring out an instruction in my training documents which is telling me to "strap" a PCI express graphics card to a certain link speed (2.5 GT/S, 5 GT/S, 8 GT/S).

From the sounds of it this is supposed to occur before boot.

It mentions two settings I have to change which I can't recall the name of right now but are something along the lines of "strap_pcie_blahblah_numbers".

I'm hoping someone can at least give me a starting tip on how I might accomplish this task.

The only things that make sence are the PCI-e Link width, as the number of negotiated links to a PCI-e card determine how fast the data can go because of how many lanes are negotiated, and this is set-up at init. Most bioses themselves do not have full control of this, although they can provide some control? Strap is a term that is loosly used by users for other things , not sure if it applies here, but the frequency settings for the PCI-E? – Psycogeek Jan 25 at 23:30
