I tried to connect my Kindle to the internet using my laptop (Atheros AR5B97 / Acer Aspire 5742G / Windows 7) as a virtual router/adapter, by following these instructions: http://erratasec.blogspot.com/2009/11/windows-7-includes-soft-ap.html

My Kindle recognizes the available wireless network that I set up, but after I type in the password, it gives me the following denial: "Your Kindle is unable to connect to your local network XY. You may need to check your local network. If you have issues connecting your Kindle to wi-fi, you can find help at Kindle support site."

Now, I'm not an advanced user, I just followed the above instructions to the best of my abilities, I may have f***ed it up along the way, but since the network is there for Kindle to "see", I don't know what I did wrong.

Another thing that may be of importance: my internet connection comes from a VPN client, since I live in a student dorm, and we use the intranet.

Any (plain English) advice on how to solve this problem or do I start from scratch using another method?

I also installed a Connectify network and Kindle gives me the same answer as above. – Nikola Feb 1 at 14:15
