I'm running VMware Workstation 8 on a Windows 7 64-bit host. When I run an Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit guest with VMware Tools installed and when I enter Unity mode I expect to see the Ubuntu application menu. Instead I see what I think is the "Places" menu (it includes Bookmarks, Recent Documents, Home Folder, Desktop, ...).
I've tried this under both Unity (this name collision makes searching for a solution difficult) and Gnome Classic, but neither setting works, even after restarting the guest and VMware.
