Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

So all of a sudden popular websites (including stackoverflow.com) stopped being displayed in IE9, with this compatibility warning popup from IE:

"A problem displaying XXX.com caused Internet Explorer to refresh the webpage using Compatibility View."

I found out that it was caused by certain fonts (Adobe type 1) that were recently installed on my PC being incompatible with IE9. I uninstalled a Helvetica font and all is well.
