Possible Duplicate:
linux freeware photo retouching software for photographers

I'm taking my first steps in the world of DSLR photography (with the help of a 550D), and I find the need to edit my photos (white balance, brightness, lens distortion, etc.) on Linux. I've been using digiKam and GIMP with the UFRaw plugin. I find them both quite useful but I wonder whether there is some other better software out there for Linux. I did read question 8711, however, in that question they mainly discuss software for Mac OS. Also, I checked question 88107 which didn't get enough attention and they only mention digiKam, GIMP and Picasa. As you can see, I need some more help here.

OSAlt recommends UFRAW. +1 Good format for the question, though. – Raystafarian Feb 8 at 21:34

What do you mean by "better"? Everything you've listed uses dcraw or libraw, so RAW processing in (assuming the same settings) any of them should be nearly identical. – afrazier Feb 8 at 21:37

This question covers exactly the same ground as earlier questions on this topic; its answers may be merged with another identical question. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

AFAIK, the overwhelming majority of open source software that handles RAW files ultimately uses dcraw (or a derivative, like libraw) underneath their UI.

Once you're past that hurdle, "better" pretty much falls down into subjective categories like library/organization/searching functionality, UI polish, integration into your desktop environment of choice, workflow design, etc.

Thanks for clarifying, I wasn't aware of the fact that they use dcraw or libraw. – the.midget Feb 8 at 21:52
