Empathy, Ubuntu's default instant messaging software, has a nice protocol dubbed "Chat with people nearby" which allows users to chat on a local network with no central server and no previous configuration. It is variously termed "local_xmpp", "Salut" and "Bonjour", and is apparently provided by libpurple. Apparently, the other notable implementation is iChat.

Are there any other clients than iChat and Empathy (and probably Finch) which implement this protocol? I would especially be looking for a minimalistic command-line client which recieves messages to say on standard input and produces incoming messages on standard output.

Thanks in advance!
