I have a CENTOS 5.7 x86_64 server with an array of 4 300GB SA-SCSI disks working in RAID 10.

How could I check their health? I suspect that there is a possible problem.

Today I noticed the server was highly overloaded. I could see that It was showing that the disk was 81% full.

After restarting apache and mysql to drop the server load, the disk usage changed to 61%

Smartctl doesn't work.

Why do you say smartctl doesn't work? What errors do you get? Most likely the smartmontools simply aren't installed. – Bram May 21 at 12:22
