Recover data loss from accidental quick format

I need to recover my valuable images which were deleted unfortunately. This happened when I re-installed Ubuntu by formatting the partitions. What is a good recovery tool for recovering the images?

certainly do not boot into Ubuntu. In fact, don't do anything with that computer until you have an answer –  Raystafarian Feb 11 '12 at 12:53

There are many file restoration applications out there. I, personally, can not vouch for any of them specifically.

Most important right now, as Raystafarian notes, is to not allow any write operations being performed on your hard drive! Also, no matter what file restoration application you use, never write the restored data to the drive you're restoring from. That could potentially destroy data you want to restore.

That being said, I would look into TestDisk and PhotoRec.

Try Recuva, this will recover all types of files.
