Take the following situation.

I have a computer with these specs

  • Intel quad core (released before the i7s back in 2005),
  • 4 gigs of RAM (DDR2 memory),
  • 500 GB hard drive,
  • Asus motherboard.

I have a cable modem (Comcast to be exact), and a Belkin router.

I have Ubuntu server (the latest version) installed on the said computer with Apache2, MySQL, and PHP5 and using the Shorewall firewall.

Given these credentials, what will be the performance of my site on the web for all to browser, how will each of the above elements impact the performance of my web server and what changes should I consider foremost with the above setup? (I'm sure the hardware of the computer and modem will play a larger part than the OS and software, but I'd like to be sure.)

Why are we saying "lets say" before everything? Lets just say that's your setup and be done with it.... –  Joe Taylor Feb 19 '12 at 18:52

As this question is off-topic on ServerFault it's off-topic here. All we can say it "it depends". –  tombull89 Feb 19 '12 at 20:02

Im shocked this was closed as off topic. All the question asks is given those tools, what wil most likely be the outcome. And if the answer is "it depends" at least explain why it will "depend" –  JohnMerlino Feb 20 '12 at 2:52
