Possible Duplicate:
Desktop Bulk-Emailer Suggestion?

I've been tasked with sending emails to our customer list of over 100k email addresses. Could some tell me what I should do regarding the actual sending of it. Are there any things I should watch out for (such as setting up reverse-dns)? It's not as simple as just writing a program to send the emails from one of our servers is it?

Edit: I realise that I can use 3rd party services, but am currently interested in undertaking this on my own. I've heard of Fast Bulk Emailer and the like but even using this I want to know if there are things I should do to prevent my emails being bounced and my server blacklisted. I mean, how would spam filters know that these are legitimate emails and not spam?

Should be as simple as setting up a mailing list. – jweede Sep 11 '09 at 19:02

Things you should watch out for? Angry customers. Having someone's e-mail address in your customer list is not the same thing as permission to spam. – bmb Sep 11 '09 at 19:18

Troggy, that's someone else asking the same thing. Didn't see it when I posted this question. – Mr. Flibble Sep 11 '09 at 19:23
My post differs from Jonathan Sampson's in that I am asking for help regarding server / dns etc setup to ensure emails get delivered and not blocked. I am not looking for software for creating and sending emails. – Mr. Flibble Sep 11 '09 at 23:44

Fast Bulk Emailer is freeware that allows you to send customized Emails in HTML or plain text to large lists of emails faster. Fast Bulk Emailer has the ability of reaching speeds of up to 2.8 million emails per hour. You can send your emails using an internal or external host to achieve even greater speeds.

Just a thought I wanted to share:

I've no experience with bulk mail and so can't recommend any such program.
I only wanted to caution against taking the risk of being branded as a spammer, should you do this in a manner that will trip some alarms at your ISP or that of your clients.
There are many bulk mail sites that will happily do this service for you, without you taking this risk. You might also like to evaluate this option.
