I currently have a lenovo w500 with switchable graphics. everything was working fine until very recently.

Anyway, after switching from the integrated to discrete graphics card windows aero suddenly stopped working. I tried doing a system restore which worked, but now it's dysfunctional as well.

I also started getting constant chkdsk operations because of a dirty disk. I've run chkdisk c:/r from a windows live CD but i'm still getting said errors.

After updating my display drivers, windows aero worked temporarily until after restarting and a chkdsk operation.

Any idea whats going on?

I would make sure all your stuff is backed up. When I started getting bad sectors every time I started the computer, my drive was about to die (luckily it gave me enough time to get everything off it). – user55325 Mar 12 '12 at 1:35
You can always try SpinRite from GRC: – Ramhound Mar 12 '12 at 12:07
