Please post software and hardware that you experienced problems with under windows 7. But do follow these guidelines please:

  1. Please provide full version information! Most important rule. Software should also include build version if available.
  2. Software that runs without any problems under XP Compatibility mode shouldn't be listed. This so that we keep this list to a manageable size. Of course, if under XP Compatibility mode the software loads but still has problems, do include it.
  3. Please, make it clear if the problem is during install, or while running. Do try to provide some information as to what happens, if you can.
  4. Software and Hardware clearly labeled by the vendor as not compatible with Windows 7, should not be listed.

Hopefully we can get a pretty accurate list of software having problems under Windows 7. More importantly, some problems that we may be experiencing may find a solution in the comments of other users who found a solution or were otherwise able to circumvent the problem.

AV problem reference: windowsfixup.com/2009/05/… (and in general: windowsfixup.com/category/windows-7) – nik Sep 15 '09 at 8:57
Cleaned up comments since OP implemented changes. +1 Good question and resource to have around. – Diago Sep 15 '09 at 9:31
what about software working but have bug, like the VLC ? – Jonathan Sep 15 '09 at 22:09
If the bug is unique to Windows 7, then sure. Otherwise the application behaves in Windows 7 as it is expected. That is. it display the same buggy behavior. So I don't think that qualifies. – A Dwarf Sep 16 '09 at 0:02

Installation of nVidia's PhysX drivers fail when launched by double clicking it, gives an error message "Installation ended prematurely because of an error".

Workaround: Starting the install in quiet mode or passive mode using

<installer-file> /passive

or

<installer-file> /quiet

results in successful installation of the drivers.

Versions affected: Entire 8- & 9- series of versions

Starry Night Pro Plus 6 (version 6.0, upgraded to 6.3.3)

Several problems with this program at least when installed from version 6.0 installer.

  • Install
Cannot install unless in XP Compatibility mode. However, this disables Windows 7 Aero Theme which has the side effect of removing or altering the Java-based installer controls, making it impossible to do a Custom installation. The solution is to swich to Classic Theme, which does restore some of the controls, enough to do a Custom installation (essential if you want additional star databases). However only do this after knowing where the Next and Cancel buttons are on the screen, because while still displayed, you will no longer be able to see the text on these two buttons.

  • Running (after upgrading to 6.3.3. Supposedly Vista compatible)
Starry Night Pro Plus 6 has several problems while running under Vista 7, even after upgrading to 6.3.3 which is said by the vendor as making the program Vista compatible. (I'm running it under an ATI Radeon HD 4770. The program uses OpenGL exclusively). Traveling to distant stars crashes the program when making the final approach (when the renderer is computing the milky way "cloud"). The program is also unstable and crashes or freezes after 15 minutes of use or so. Switching to XP Compatibility mode fixes these problems. But there's a considerable drop in performance of up to 50% and affects everything, from on-screen data display when hovering over sky objects to sidebar items usage and even database search. The program becomes nearly unusable or very frustrating.

I would suggest you flip this to CW as well. Changing the question does not change the answers. – Diago Sep 15 '09 at 9:32

Logitech Clearchat Wireless USB Headset works with Win 7 - If yours isn't working its more than likely an incompatibility problem between some of the latest Windows 7 Nvidia graphics drivers and the USB Device.

Suggestion : Roll back to an older driver and you'll get crystal clear audio.

Such things will pass (probably quite fast),
this question is therefore quite short-lived.
But, may prove useful for some people in the meantime.

Many VMware ThinApp applications will not work. We utilize ThinApp to package an internal app where I work and it does not work on Windows 7 natively.

Using a Virtual Machine (Virtual Windows XP) is a legitimate workaround, if a bit of a hassle.

Windows 7 Professional or Premium or all? Windows 7 x86 or 64?

I run all OS(es) that's why, and I am pretty sure my CCleaner for Windows 7 64 works fine, but I have not tested it on my laptop with Windows 7 X86 both Professional Versions.

What other versions are the people listing their problems related to? Professional, Premium, X86 or 64?

And I did not want to ask my own question and start a new thread since I believe in this particular thread alone the problem can be solved without having a separate thread for specific variants of Windows 7.

F.lux does not work on Windows 7 Professional x86

However, on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, it works fine.
