what version of bios do you have? support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-70443 go to the bios section and you can read the install section. Check the bios history to see if a fix was issued for overheating problem. If your latop over heats fast, faster than what it would take you to update the bios ... you shouldn't do it. A corrupt bios would be a worse problem – LogmanApr 22 '12 at 3:47

updating bios isn't hard. You download an exe and execute it. The computer reboots and installs the bios for you. Usually only take a couple mins... and then restarts again into your OS. The problem you have is that the bios is a Windows exe meant for win7 32 or 64. Use Wine to execute it? Make sure you use the correct bios for your specific laptop. – LogmanApr 22 '12 at 3:59

@Ramy I would not attempt a bios flash until you fix the overheating issue, if it shuts down during the flash it will brick the notebook, rendering it useless. Clean the heatsink and fan...h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/… – MoabApr 22 '12 at 15:06
