I have a IBM Thinkpad model A22m. When I first turn it on the LCD image is fine. As soon as the laptop begins to boot I have alternating light and dark image areas from top to bottom of the screen. They flicker and are 11 bands. I tried to use Linux but have the same problem. It would seem like a driver issue rather than hardware.

If it were a driver issue, it would not occur between the different operating systems. – cutrightjm Apr 22 '12 at 23:31

By "when I first turn it on" you mean during POST? What about in the BIOS? Does the problem eventually go away once the OS has booted, or does it stay that way? Is the problem with the image on the LCD, or does it look like it might be the backlighting? – Indrek Apr 23 '12 at 0:01
