I want to geek-out our RPG gaming group by displaying a digital version of the game map via an LCD/DLP projector firing downwards on the table top directly. I've seen permanent rigs where the projector is fixed to the ceiling, but I want a portable setup which I can move to various locations. Any mounting ideas? Doesn't look like there are telescoping projector stands built for this puropse from what I can find...

You can always use an extendable table lamp, get a 3M Pico projector, and velcro it to the table lamp.

Looks like it runs about $250 on the street. Does it hold up to its marketing claims in person? – RBerteig Sep 16 '09 at 7:43

white table cloth + build your own i guess. Something with enough throw to work with a standard projector would be pretty large though.

If you had a translucent glass table, you could try projecting from below though. might be easier, given enough distance.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'm going to go with this setup:

Basically we bolt the mount to the center of the board and then jack the board over the table with the FastCap supports (one on each end of the board). We position the board so the center of the board is over the center of the table below with the FastCap supports straddling the table -- should work!
