Intel Core i7 2600K has a core speed of 1596.35 MHz

Question

I just bought a new Intel Core i7 2600K sandy bridge , it has a core speed of 1596.35 MHz using CPU-Z in normal use.

Does anyone know why is it that low ? I checked some pictures from Google and people had twice the core speed using i7 2600k

Voting to close, as this is normal behaviour. This is called SpeedStep, and will dynamically lower/raise the clock frequency and voltage to reduce excessive power consumption.
You can probably turn this speedStep stuff OFF in your BIOS. Then, when your computer's doing nothing, it will do nothing twice as fast. (Ha ha ha.) The reason I turn SpeedStep off on software development computers is because I want it always on top speed, so my software profiling applications will give accurate repeatable timings.

It's a power saving feature. It will go up if you play a game or some such.
