My Turtle Beach head set which I have been using for a while has just begun to produce muffled squeaking sounds whenever I speak on Skype. I can hear my voice normally through the speakers but my friends on Skype can only hear my squeaky muffled voice. What can I do to fix this?

I have plugged in everything correctly, and I suspect it is a computer setting but don't know which one.

If you can hear your voice normally through the speakers, then the headset/mic is working properly. If your friends are hearing something else, it is most likely compression/transmission settings that are corrupting the audio that you are sending. What happens when you use the Skype Test Call Robot? – Bon Gart May 9 '12 at 18:32
When i do that it sounds like what my friends are hearing, so thats why i think its skype – Ollie Tubb May 9 '12 at 18:52
how fast is your connection speed... upload as well as download? are you doing anything else in the background while talking on Skype that would eat up your bandwidth? – Bon Gart May 9 '12 at 19:11
connection speed is the Virgin 30mbps, and i purposefully turned of steam and spotify to prevent that. – Ollie Tubb May 9 '12 at 19:17
With that fast of a download connection, you should have a fast upload connection. Do you know what it is? Because the upload speed is what is important here, as you are uploading your audio and video to your friends during a connection. Also, what TIME are you making these calls? Because according to Virgin… they are trimming/compressing your upload speeds by 25% at certain times of the evening – Bon Gart May 9 '12 at 19:23
