I wish to save various values into several file detail fields and display them in Explorer. However, I want Explorer (for this particular folder, and its subfolders) to use different column names for these fields so that the title describes what's being displayed as each field's value, for each file.

I can set Title, Author, Company, Manager, Tags, Subject, Comments, and DateCreated, for each file, but need different column titles!

So you want to put data in the Title field, for example, but want the column to say something other than Title? – techturtle Jun 11 '12 at 19:01
Exactly! The values going into the fields relate to data from another system. – Lee Jun 11 '12 at 19:16
I'm not aware of how to do that. You can find many of these meta tags in the Registry (I found them in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations) but I don't know that you can safely change them. You might try looking for an Explorer alternative (several are discussed here). – techturtle Jun 12 '12 at 16:19
