Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I would like to install a NAS for global internet access. I would like to then be able to access it from any mobile(IOS, Droid) and computer device I choose and view files from it directly. I have been in server, web, and database administration as well as software development, so no project is to overwhelming.

I have not purchased any of this equipment yet so manufacturer suggestions are applicable.

My personal design is as follows. Install NAS on network, create web server and broadcast shared folders as file uploads/downloads via .Net web forms. I can secure the web server with authentication protocols, but I have no idea where to go for mobile processing or mobile streaming from the NAS via web interface, especially streaming securely(SSL--maybe?). I would rather not put the NAS directly onto the web, but am open to going through another vendor for this capability.

Suggestions?
