I am trying my hand at installing the Perforce Visual Client (P4V) on my Linux box. For this I download the correct version here and untar the files. Then I cd to the directory ~/Desktop/p4v-2012-blah-blah/bin and chmod +x p4*

After this I try running p4v (by double clicking) but I dont see anything. The file type is shown as a "text executable" but I dont know why it is not running. On a Mac the same procedure works: just double-click and it runs correctly. What am I missing here?

I did check out this link with the install instructions.

What happens if you run p4v from the terminal? – Renan Jun 16 '12 at 3:20
