Like many folks, the number of DVDs and CDs in my closet has grown over the years. Its at the point now where I'd like to have a catalog of some kind that I can look at to see what I have, if I loaned it out, etc.

It would also be nice if it has a service of some kind behind it that allows it to bring in an image of the movie along with other information like genre, date, actors and actresses.

//I do have a software development background and could certainly
//build this, but I do not need to reinvent the wheel.

In the ideal world, this would be a web based solution that stored my information and data for me so that I can access it anywhere including my iPhone.

Windows Media Center? :) – Jonathan Sampson Jul 16 '09 at 2:18
lol - I knew that would come up... Will that support non digital inventories? I don't have a bunch of digital content right now... – RSolberg Jul 16 '09 at 2:19
You mean, you just want a database to store your movie/cd information, and not the media itself? – Jonathan Sampson Jul 16 '09 at 2:20
Does IMDB have an api? :) – Jonathan Sampson Jul 16 '09 at 2:22
IMDB doesn't do a great job of exposing information on it. Netflix has an API and its actually pretty cool... – RSolberg Jul 16 '09 at 2:22

You might want to check out WhereIsIt. I haven't used it recently, but used to use it and it was quick and had quite a few nice features.
