I am using Centos 5.8 and using squid 3.1.I am trying to achieve transparent proxy along with another parent proxy server IP.

So far I am able to configure the peer_cache settings in squid.conf using christian schenk's blog:

"cache_peer 8080 0 no-query no-digest never_direct allow all"

I can browse internet by configuring browser and point it to either my squid's proxy ip or parent service providers proxy IP but cannot browse without setting either one of them under LAN settings. As for setting up transparent proxy I tried iptables as mentioned under standard transparent proxy procedures but still no luck.

Any word of advice on how to get transparent through parent proxy as I cannot access internet without setting up the browser and therefore not a transparent proxy.

Are you using TPROXY? – diegows Jun 28 '12 at 22:32
@diegows, just as i am only familiar with centos and squid. the problem is only with using squid as transparent proxy using parent proxy which in my case is from my ISP. – Ahmed Saad Jun 29 '12 at 9:53
ok, What kind of transparent proxy? TPROXY? What iptables configuration are you using to get your transparent proxy working? That changes the answer. – diegows Jun 29 '12 at 17:59
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth1 -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 3128 – Ahmed Saad Jul 1 '12 at 16:01
squid proxy setting , just http_port 3128 transparent, also tried using intercept but its same. – Ahmed Saad Jul 1 '12 at 16:03
