I like to program and such on my computer while listening to music. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and such is usually watching TV a few feet behind me, so I use headphones.

My onboard sound card plays music through my headphones pretty well. Sometimes I'd really like about 25% more loudness or so though. What options do I have to make them louder, preferably on the cheap and without spending a whole lot of money?

Sounds like a purchase recommendation to me. If its JUST volume, go get a cheap little fiio e3 amp - they're cheap and cheerful but give a good boost to volume, and i got mine for something like 6 dollars – Journeyman Geek Jun 29 '12 at 9:02
