I am running a Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit virtual machine on a Windows 7 64 bit host. I've checked 'Enable Server' on the "Remote Display' tab of VirtualBox (4.1.18) and set the Server Port to 3399 (with Authentication Method set to 'Guest') so it wouldn't conflict with the existing RDP built into windows 7 on port 3389. I assumed that I could connect to port 3399 using remote desktop on the host, but I cannot see port 3399 open on either the host or guest using 'netstat -na'.

I had the VirtualBox additions installed on the guest, but after enabling the server I rebooted, re-installed the additions, and rebooted again but still see no port 3399 open. I've disabled Windows Firewall and still see nothing, and I cannot find any errors in the event viewer. Any idea what I can do or what I'm doing wrong?
