What are some free video editors for Mac OS X?

I ask because I'm not fond of the price tag accompanying Final Cut Pro...

And works nicely for pretty basic stuff when you know nothing at all. – dmckee Sep 22 '09 at 0:06

Here are a couple I have found on the net. Haven't used them (as I use Final Cut and iMovie) but I hope this list helps. You can find the links to the programs through this site: http://tv.isg.si/site/?q=node/873

Blender : model • shade • animate • render • composite • interactive 3d Blender is the free open source 3D content creation suite, available for all major operating systems.

Avidemux : Avidemux is a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. It supports many file types, including AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF, using a variety of codecs. Tasks can be automated using projects, job queue and powerful scripting capabilities.

Jashaka : The worlds first open source, hardware accelerate editing and effects system! Well worth to check it out.

HyperEngine-AV : Multimedia authoring software for capturing, editing, organizing, processing, and exporting video, audio, and text to create DVD quality movies and slide shows.

ZS4 Video Editor : ZS4 Video Editor is video editing and compositing software which aims to provide media experts with a facility to combine a variety of media types (currently photos, videos and audio files) into one (or more) output file(s).

Depending on the amount of "editing" you would like to do, the new Quicktime X can edit video, and iMovie 09 is pretty good and comes with OS X if you buy a new machine.

I agree with the other two answers of iMovie and Quicktime giving you quite a few options. I don't think you're going to find anything free that can do nearly as much as iMovie can do (especially if you get into the more advanced features iMovie actually allows). If you really need more advanced functionality, I think Final Cut Studio is a good in-between option that won't completely break your wallet like the Pro version will.
