Are there a keyboard shortcut when cursor is in the date field of a task at gmail, which allows you to conviniently select the date?

For example in tracks web app, there are the < and > keys to move a single day forward/backward ][ to move through weeks, etc.

I'll quote myself "the date field of a task at gmail". In gmail tasks, you can assign a task with a date. When using your mouse a little calendar pops, but what about when using your keyboard? – Elazar Leibovich Sep 22 '09 at 18:18
mmmm... I see what you mean. you have to click on the field or the calendar to get the date entry; the field doesn't otherwise accept keyboard input. and if you've entered a date, you can't keyboard-delete it (even though you can select the field, highlighting the data). – Michael Paulukonis Sep 22 '09 at 18:59

Inspecting the Gmail tasks field, there seem to be no keyboard event attached. So the answer is unfortunately no such feature yet. For now you must use the mouse.

If you mean Google Calender, you can access "google calender labs"

This allows you to select "Jump to Date"
