I'm just wondering if there's a shared online document editing tool out there that identifies who wrote what.

You'd think Google Docs would be the perfect tool but annoyingly, there's no automatic indication of who wrote what -- each contributor has to make a point of bolding their text (or italics, or ALL CAPS or whatever) and if there are more than 2 of you it gets pretty ridiculous.

Any suggestions? Of course, free is better but I'd be happy to pay for a robust tool.

I think this question is off topic on superuser (as it requests a webservice), but check out etherpad: – Baarn Jul 16 '12 at 21:51
