I'm trying to fix a friend's computer. He's somehow managed to disable/uninstall all audio drivers. (The speakers work, as testing with an Ubuntu Live CD demonstrates.)
Control Panel > Printers and other hardware > Sounds, speech, and audio devices > Sounds and audio devices
Volume tab says "No audio device". The
Audio tab says "No playback devices", "No recording devices", and "No MIDI playback devices". The
Voice tab says "No playback devices" and "No recording devices". So something's wrong.
Hardware tab, meanwhile, lists the CD/DVD drive, Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Codecs, Media Control Devices, and a couple of video thingies, and for each one says "This device is working properly". The Device Manager says the same.
So something's misconfigured somewhere.
