Is there any way to restore a jailbroken iOS device?

Yes. Just connect it to iTunes and it'll be able to restore it. Without the SHSH files, however, you'll be able to upgrade to the latest firmware only. Also, if you rely on a carrier unlock which requires a certain modem (baseband) version, you might not even able to restore to certain (in the worst case scenario, to any) firmware version, as the firmware checks the version of its own baseband.

Or once it is jailbroken the warranty is gone?

In theory, jailbreaking voids your warranty forever. But if you restore, it's hard to tell if it was ever jailbroken.

Does jailbreaking effect the hardware of the device?

It doesn't modify the hardware, but in some cases it relies on security vulnerabilities in the hardware (in the iBoot and iBSS stages, specifically).

It depends on how you have jailbroken your device and if you have changed your baseband or not.If you changed your baseband you will probably fail if you try to restore to latest IOS version over iTunes.

What do you mean by the baseband ? –  The Lion Aug 11 '12 at 12:01
If you want to unlock your iPhone for any SIm card you will need to preserve your baseband that has a available unlock. The latest baseband are mostly not unlovable. –  Ilker Baltaci Aug 11 '12 at 12:04
Ok thanks for the information :) –  The Lion Aug 11 '12 at 12:05
The thing is when you try to restore over iteunes, it compares the installed baseband and IOS version so if you have something different (a lower baseband) than the one which is supposed to be with the IOS VErsion, Ituens simply fails. –  Ilker Baltaci Aug 11 '12 at 12:08

Yes there is a way to restore the jailbreak device. And after restore to it's factory settings ie after restore it is liable for warranty just dont mention that you have jailbreak the device.

and No harm is done to hardware during or after restore of jailbreak

Happy Coding :)

The way to restore it is just connect it to iTunes and click on restore button :)
