After i have installed VS 2010 in windows 7 64 bit. I tried to install sql server 2008 express 64bit version. but the installation failed. saying some files is missing from the downloaded package. I downloaded from this source : I tried to install the same but this time a 32 bit version. the installation was sucessfull, but when i am trying to login through management studio. using various server name such as .\sqlexpress , computer-name\sqlexpress, . , localhost\SQLEXPRESS but none seems to work. the error is saying :

Cannot connect to mac-PC\sqlexpress.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

How to Solve the problem ?? I have rebooted the Pc also.

Did you remove the failed installation before doing the second one? – user3463 Aug 12 '12 at 4:25
nope. So now is there any way ??? – Tony Aug 12 '12 at 4:27
Remove both installations: the one that worked and the one that failed, and then do the second one again. And CALM DOWN. – user3463 Aug 12 '12 at 4:52
