After i have installed VS 2010 in windows 7 64 bit. I tried to install sql server 2008 express 64bit version. but the installation failed. saying some files is missing from the downloaded package. I downloaded from this source : http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=7593 I tried to install the same but this time a 32 bit version. the installation was sucessfull, but when i am trying to login through management studio. using various server name such as .\sqlexpress , computer-name\sqlexpress, . , localhost\SQLEXPRESS but none seems to work. the error is saying :

Cannot connect to mac-PC\sqlexpress.

Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

How to Solve the problem ?? I have rebooted the Pc also.

Remove both installations: the one that worked and the one that failed, and then do the second one again. And CALM DOWN. –  user3463 Aug 12 '12 at 4:52
