Google News Reader is my favorite too.

Pros:

  • online availability wherever you have Internet access
  • intuitive interface
  • does its job --> RSS Reader
  • speed
  • iPhone interface

Cons:

  • Interface is very simple
  • If you have several feeds (more than 100) you get lost
  • needs a gmail account

Feeddemon:

Pros:

  • iPhone interface available
  • Offline reader
  • Google reader synchronization
  • Twitter synchronization
  • Sharing of items to your friends
  • custom news watches
  • feeds organization and display

Cons:

  • installation
  • local configuration
  • updates

So right now i use both of them. When i'm at home i use feeddemon and on the run i stick to Google Reader.

Google Reader lets you share items with friends as well – Casebash Sep 25 '09 at 7:26

Offline access is available in Google Reader as well, if you use Google Gears. In my opinion there are no real advantages to using FeedDemon.

  • Google Reader is available anywhere,
  • it's always synchronized,
  • has an easy to use interface,
  • has versions for iPhone and other mobile platforms,
  • it's relatively fast,
  • there are no headaches when you have to reinstall the OS and you have to think about backing up all your settings and favorites.

Google Gears doesn't work on 64-bit Linux – Casebash Sep 25 '09 at 7:23
Actually it is available for 64-bit; I use it all the time. Just google it. – Matthew Talbert Sep 25 '09 at 7:51
Clarification: Doesn't work for Firefox 3.5 on 64-bit Linux – Casebash Sep 25 '09 at 23:21

You can use feed demon to easily store your favourite blog items offline, and then with the program just burn it to dvd, making it easy to make a long lasting copy.

I've yet to find what files do I need to get if I wish to copy google's offline files to a dvd, and be able to reload them later.

Google Reader automatically marks as read and hides messages that are slightly older than 2 weeks. This may be inconvenient when you return from a vacation and so on.

I could not find a way to keep all my unread messages unread in Google Reader, including very old ones
