Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm writing this on behalf of a less-than-extremely-computer-literate friend who's currently living in a dorm with secured Wi-Fi.

While using Skype video chat, and occasionally Netflix (hence my assumption that streaming video is the problem), she will receive the following message and her laptop will disconnect from the network:

SecureW2 Error
Received an invalid packet during EAP communication

Networking isn't exactly my specialty so I only kind of understand what EAP is, but when Googling that exact message I got a nigh-unprecedented one result, and it was for a forum on a Spanish site regarding an HTC phone running Windows Phone.

Is this something that can be mitigated, or is it simply an unfortunate consequence of the way the network is setup that must be endured?

Sounds like more of a SuperUser question. Or a question for her college's IT department. Or something I'd do if a bunch of kids were pissing me off by eating up all the bandwidth on my network with Skype and Netflix. Etc. – HopelessN00b Jul 15 '12 at 19:54
