I'm looking for some software that will help me draw very simple building specs to help with visualization while I'm planning projects. I don't need anything crazy or too detailed, just something with a simple 2D or 3D diagram with measurements of the walls, door placements, etc.

You have anything that you use for this type of thing?

If I understand your question correctly then Google SketchUp may be what you're looking for.

This is even more powerful than I was looking for... assuming it can include measurements and stuff, this is perfect... thanks! – Max Schmeling Sep 25 '09 at 18:41
Nice. After googling for few days, i thought there is no software for free with which you can make floor plan drawings easily, but nice to know there is. Found this only by searching superuser.com serach. – Janis Veinbergs Jan 12 at 15:02

You can use IKEA Planner Tools : Kitchen planner, Bedroom planner and Office planner.

While they'll only populate your plan with IKEA furniture, they are free and can generate nice results and visualizations.

This is a good idea, but won't do all that I'm looking for. – Max Schmeling Sep 25 '09 at 18:42

You can use Gliffy to create floor plans, if you want. It's a free online web app:

With Gliffy online diagram software, you can easily create professional-looking flowcharts, diagrams, floor plans, technical drawings, and more.
