My USB mobile modem has a connection application that used to work fine in Windows 8 release preview, but no longer works in the final version (enterprise evaluation). When I run it, Windows displays a blue band message 'Application does not run in this version of Windows'.

Running in compatibility/admin mode does not help either, and pressing Test Program in the troubleshooter does nothing.

The setup program of the application used to install some drivers, which now do not seem to be properly installed.

My question is - does the RTM version of Windows 8 have an additional flag for driver compatibility (such as do not allow installation of drivers that...) or one for running applications (do not run applications that...) which was not on by default in the preview version? If yes, is there a way to turn it off?

Are you 100% sure you are using a 32-bit operating system? If it worked on Windows 8 Release Preview there is no technical reason it should not work on the final version. – Ramhound Sep 4 '12 at 15:56
