Since I’ve upgraded my system from Debian Squeeze to Wheezy my graphics performance is very poor.

This can be seen when watching movies (repeated short hangs), browsing the web (esp. in Chrome/Chromium noticeable hangs when opening new tabs) et. al.

This never happend when using Squeeze on this system.

During the upgrade my manual Nvidia driver installation was replaced by the packaged non-free driver.

How can I restore my former graphics performance?

This issue is very annoying and any hint would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any warnings or errors in X.org's log files? Dmesg? Is X.org actually running the packaged driver, or is it failing to load for some reason and switching to a generic fallback? – Darth Android Sep 7 '12 at 17:37
