I have a really cheap phone, the LG 101. It has a really bad selection of ringtones and you have to pay to download others. I was hoping I could plug it into my computer and transfer something myself. I have a micro USB to USB cable, but when I plug in the phone it charges but does not appear as a disk drive. How can I access the files on the phone?

You probably can't. Did the phone come with any kind of software for your PC? It's a ~$20 phone, so you can't expect much I guess. – slhck Sep 16 '12 at 15:47

This won't get you at the files, but check out Rumkin.com's Phone Uploader service.

Send ringers, images, games, and screensavers to your phone with this tool. It is provided completely free of charge. Make sure you have a data plan and can access the internet; your carrier may charge you if you do not. It will probably work with your phone — give it a try.

I used to use it all the time to send custom ring-tones, wallpapers and such to my old, locked down, not-very-smart phone.
