I am interested in the following: I want to have on server(DS/VDS) an OS which I can access with some kind of remote desktop. So this is kinda virtual machine but not on my drive, but in the internet.

What should I look for?

I would guess any server like this can be set up for RDP if you have access to configure it as you want - A VPS or DS would suffice (although no restrictions really on DS other than maybe some firewall issues but this is so server/company dependent). I would suggest you speak to a datacenter and see what you can get (or phone a web hosting company).

DId I understood right that as *Unix system so as windows system would be achievable from every other machine? One more question is that can I can for example install some cloud-drive app on this system? – Jevgeni Smirnov Sep 20 '12 at 13:54
Well - It depends on the OS - you'll need to research this a lot more, first off deciding what OS you want! Then take it from there. Also, what you describe is not virtual - it is just accessible over wire. An example is here (see comments) – Dave Rook Sep 20 '12 at 13:56
I see. I suppose as for me Debian/Windows/Mac will be sufficient. I just want to create some remote workplace, which can be achieved from anywhere. – Jevgeni Smirnov Sep 20 '12 at 14:03
@JakeTheFish, yes, if you want RDP protocol, on Linux server you can run xrdp and it will be available from windows with RDP or linux with a RDP client. There are also other remote connection ways that can work too but RDP works well in my opinion. – laurent Sep 20 '12 at 14:03
