I have a short wmv movie and I need to convert it to animated gif. I used

ffmpeg -i test.wmv -s:v 400x200 -pix_fmt rgb24 test.gif

In spite of movie is 5Mb, gif file became 1 Gb. Wow! What did I do wrong?

Your full, uncut command line output is missing. Please include that! Have you changed the frame rate and tried compressing the GIF as explained here? How can I get ffmpeg to convert a .mov to a .gif? –  slhck Sep 22 '12 at 16:18
<<Your full, uncut command line output is missing.>> What do you mean? –  Grienders Sep 22 '12 at 17:04
When you enter that command, FFmpeg will output all kinds of info about your version and what happens during conversion. Please include all of that in your question. –  slhck Sep 22 '12 at 17:12
