I've got a major frustrating problem with remote desktop connections. Very often i'm not able anymore to establish a RDP connection to any server from my Windows 7 (client) computer.

The only solution is to reboot. I've tried to restart all related services:

  • Remote desktop configuration
  • remote desktop services
  • remote procedure call (RPC)
  • remote procedure call (rpc) locator

but still no success. The MSTSC keeps stuck on 'configuring remote session...'.

Is there a way to fix this without a reboot? Stop some services or kill some process(es)?

Can you try to kill the process in task manager (or at least see if it is there are you are booted off). You may also want to disalbe/enable the auto-connect in the properties. – Dave Rook Sep 24 '12 at 14:38
