When using ffmpeg on linux, my 4.3GB 2.21 second video is being chopped down to 1.56 duration. I'm trying to reduce file size, but not lose frames.

Interesting. How many frames do you expect if not 1164? Can you maybe try again with a more recent static build of FFmpeg from here: ffmpeg.gusari.org/static – the version you use is already a little outdated. Do you get the same results when specifying another codec like ffmpeg -i microbe.avi -c:v libx264 microbe.mp4 or ffmpeg -i microbe.avi -c:v libxvid microbe.mp4? –  slhck Sep 26 '12 at 16:22
