I'm looking for a quiet B&W multifunction laser printer (with copy/scan/fax functionality) for my home office. The office is small, and two people work here, so a quiet machine is essential. I've tried a couple of machines from Brother and HP, but both sounded like a plane was taking off when they printed. Online reviews generally don't mention how loud a machine is, and trying to evaluate it in a huge big-box retail store is impossible, because there's too much ambient noise.

Can anybody recommend a machine that would not disturb a phone call if you were sitting next to it when it started printing?

The faq explicitly classifies shopping and buying recommendations as off topic. – Dennis Sep 28 '12 at 16:34
Welcome to Super User! Right now, this question looks a lot like a shopping recommendation, which are considered off-topic in the FAQ. You have also not mentioned how you define 'quiet' - this makes the question very hard to answer. Perhaps reword it (using the edit button underneath) to ask how to accurately measure and determine the loudness of a laser printer, and then use the answers you get to do your own research. – Darth Android Sep 28 '12 at 16:35
My apologies. Is there a way for me to withdraw the question? – KnowItAllWannabe Sep 28 '12 at 16:56
