Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am not sure if this is the most apt place to ask this question, but I looked through all the sites so here goes.

I am repurposing an old desktop as a media center PC using Ubuntu(for the time being)but I am also interested in adding some capabilities more typically attributed to a game console to the machine. Like games. To that end, I am looking for a Linux user interface that is easily navigable using a game controller type input device, or a way of modifying an existing user interface to be controlled with a game controller.

Unfortunately, MythTV and XBMC are not adequate because they cannot launch other applications(such as Egoboo or SuperTuxCart). The most essential thing is to be able to browse the installed applications with a joystick and to be able to launch applications from this interface. Does anyone know how I would begin to do this?

@user88311 Please don't direct users to other sites like this. Cross-posting of questions is not allowed and by posting such comments you're only encouraging that. Normally, Dan's question would be perfectly on-topic here. However, I've closed this question now since it's already been posted on Ask Ubuntu. Dan, if you decide that you'd rather want the question here, you can remove it from Ask Ubuntu and let me know — I'll reopen it then. –  slhck Oct 1 '12 at 12:58
