How do I detect if a Displayport output is properly connected to my graphics card using a utility in either Linux or Windows?
I am trying to connect my laptop to an external monitor using Displayport, but nothing happens when I connect the cable. I have tested with both Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.04.
I have an HP EliteBook 8440p and I am trying to connect it to an HP ZR2740W monitor using a Displayport cable. I've had several problems with the computer and I've sent it back to HP multiple times to have a problem with the keyboard fixed. I had also complained about flickering with screen and I think that they might have replaced the graphics card during one of the three times that I sent the computer back to them.
I found the following link where someone else describes having the same problem. However, I have also tested briefly with another monitor that used to have the Displayport output work, and it no longer does.
This question is somewhat specific to my personal situation. But in general I would like to know if I can detect if there is a hardware problem. So I am wondering if anyone can give suggestions for troubleshooting Displayport. It would be easier for me to try in Linux, but I can also try with Windows if that has a chance of working.
